This paper deals with the question of how history can be learned, o some kind of hitorical wisdom can be attained, in the public realm of Modernity. Arendt’s political theory is compared with Koselleck’s history of concepts or Begriffsgeschichte. After working out, firstly, Arendt’s notion of politics as fredom of word for plural discussion and as «organized remembrance», and secondly, the definition by Koselleck of politics as a «struggle for the meaning» of socio-political concepts, I come to the «public work on the concepts», a notion which ca shed light on some present issues on histoy and memory.
