From respect to care in conservation aesthetics

In this paper, ethics and aesthetics are intertwined in their application to the conservation of cultural and artistic assets. The key lies in care, which, although a moral category, it also becomes here an aesthetic category. To get that, first of all, this study delves into the ethical profile of care, differentiating it from respect, with which it tends to be confused. After that, it explains the aesthetic nature of care through its relationship with touch and delicacy due to the relevance of these two concepts in dealing with the vulnerable being. Finally, it is concluded that care meets the best conditions to be elevated to the rank of standard in the codes of conservation ethics.
