Loneliness, between Relevances and Discontinuities, a Phenomenological View

Loneliness, especially the suffering it can cause in those who experience it, has gained considerable relevance in recent times, to the point of becoming an object of social concern. However, the fact that it is sought with an eye on its effects has exposed us to different distortions in its approach, such as its substantiation in the attribution of certain potentialities or, failing that, its obscuring, by being bridged between its causes and effects. Given this, this article urges us to relocate loneliness, its experience, at the centre of the analysis, offering a descriptive approach that questions what it is in itself, without explanatory pretensions, without subordinating it to its effects. With this, we seek depth in the understanding of the experience to better understand its scope, including its relationship with discomfort, something that, in turn, will allow us to reconsider the proposed intervention models as well as open ourselves to other less considered ones.
