In this paper, it is argued for a particular approach —progressive democratic social action— to the solution of the social problems associated with our technological society. The case is made through a process of elimination, showing how this approach has better prospects than others: technology assessment, the proposal of ethical rules as limits on technology, or the political control of technology. The author argues for a social activism focused on specific cases and local settings as the most adequate way of dealing with technosocial problems.
