Justice is considered as a reply to injustice. This is a novel idea because both ancient and modern theories understand justice as an apriori to injustice. Placing injustice first requires recourse to memory. Without the memory of injustice there can be no theory of justice. The result is an anamnestic justice which is presented as an alternative to the standard but amnesic theories of justice.
