Histories and Memories: a Comparative Approach

There are different ways of remembering, perhaps as many as are the modes of narration. Here we analyze three main panoramas, three strategies available to individuals, groups or institutions to deal with memories, especially the memories of political or social conflicts: forgetting or, more accurately, denial and trying to forget; continuing old conflicts by other means, at a symbolic level, forgiving or, more accurately, trying to reconcile conflicting memories.
