Religion and history in Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio’s essays

Sánchez Ferlosio’s essays show the relevance of religious ideas when reflecting on history. Ferlosio argues that the idea of sacrifice has been secularized and has been used to give meaning to suffering. That is how ideas such as «Universal History» and «Progress» have been legitimized. Moreover, he defines religious attitude as rejection of the reality principle as a valid criterion for determining good and evil in the world. Therefore, religious attitude is a disobedience to facticity. By proposing these ideas on religion and history, Ferlosio joins some contemporary authors who reject «factic legitimation».
