Abstract

In the following article, the focus is mainly on the secularisation and critique of modernity that we observe in the work of Leo Strauss. Despite the fact that this philosopher talks about the anti-theological anger of modernists, he finally concedes that Neuzeit novelties are not absolute and also the necessity of noticing a certain continuity regarding Judeo-Christian tradition. One other peculiarity of Straussian interpretation is that he identifies modernity with only one of its trends, that of liberalism. In the article, we analyse the conservative and even reactionary nature of Straussian critique when directed towards modern liberalism. Furthermore, we analyse its differences and convergences with the biggest liberal of the century, Carl Schmitt.
