The relation between will and understanding in the early modern period: an anthropological key for the theory and the practice

The paper inquires into two philosophical positions, the first one emphasizes the importance of the will and the second one prefers the understanding. These anthropological options are decisive in order to explain other questions (God, knowledge, ethics, nature and history), and have many practical consequences too. After a genealogical exposition, we study the cases of Leibniz and Spinoza because they unify both dimensions but in a different way.
