Reciprocity as a social bond

“Justice”, like “being”, is said in many senses. Not distinguishing them exactly leads to serious misunderstandings, such as thinking that justice is reduced to reciprocity: paying with the same coin for good and bad. With dialectical method, Aristotle shows the cause of the error of those who think this way, since they reduce all justice to the arithmetic relation of corrective justice. But it also shows what is true in this approach: that justice, understood as reciprocity, constitutes a link that holds society together, as an exchange society. This research shows the difficulty of this approach: with what criteria reciprocity, as a form of justice, can make the goods that are exchanged and that are qualitatively different commensurate.
